Blue sky and birds flying

I know I have a charmed life, sitting in the sun here in France (I do work hard too ..honest!)

View from our garden

Yesterday I was having my lunch in the sun looking at the beautiful blue sky with not a cloud in it.  I was watching a bird just drifting on the warm air currents, darting about quite happily.  In fact I was quite envying him, the panoramic view and the peace up there …until when two smaller birds swooped in on him and started attacking him, defending their territory.

They were making a right racket and continued their circling and attacking aggressively until the bigger bird gave in and floated by towards the adjacent fields.

With in 5 minutes the little birds had both gone off to try their bullying tactics on someone else and the bigger bird returned flying around, going back to what he was doing before being so rudely interrupted!

It made me think ..do we ever just need to walk away?

Move away from unpleasant situations?  Move away and let the air calm ?

Sometimes it is us being unreasonable or defending our area and sometimes our defending is out of fear or ignorance.  Can we walk away ?  Can we return when we know a better way or a different way?

I am a peacemaker, I shy away from confrontation, I stand my ground but will always walk away to try to keep the peace..my life is simple why complicate it !

All these thoughts from just 3 birds flying around ..not bad for a quiet lunch !

Will my legs take it?

I have never been that keen on exercise ..I think it stems from when I as a kid..
I have always been tall and gangly ..my arm and legs getting in the way and often falling over nothing.

When I run I look like so strange lumbering flightless bird ..not graceful or nimble.
At school I hated being tall ..always being picked to be in goal in the net ball team, always last to be picked on anything too energetic ..I know now it was because that was the vibe that I was putting out there
..hating every minute ..amazing how tummy ache or headaches appeared on a PE day!

Anyway ..now I am a grown up (!) I have taken that dislike of exercise with me ..I believe that I am not that coordinated & therefore tennis, badminton etc is difficult ..but mainly by biggest problem is just being embarrassed.. I hate looking stupid. ..

T Harv Eker quote : How you do anything is how you do everything !

..and this is so true ..I stop myself doing things because I am embarrassed.
I hate the thought of people not liking me and feeling vulnerable ..
but the truth is …no one really cares ..no one really takes that much notice ..and if they do it is for a fraction of a second ..so….
…time to get over myself and get on with it!

So back to exercise ..I have been getting fitter walking the dog ..I love the countryside here so that one is easy.
As our car has broken down & the garage man is being typically French …lots of ohh & ahhing and looking perplexed and head shaking ..we have been with out the car for 9 days now & we live in the middle of nowhere ..hmmmm going a little stir crazy me thinks!

So today is the day ..when my Dad needs a prescription filled and we are down to our last 6 slices of bread ..so today we are having a family outing on on byclettes and cycling down to the local supermarket (about 1 hour away) ….can’t say I am looking forward to it but I know it ain’t a big deal and I know that if I see the outcome in my mind as being achieved it will be .
So think of me this afternoon and pray that the shop is open when we get there (French opening times are very spasmodic at the best of times ) ..and that my poor legs & bottom survive an hour on the bike !
….Tour De France …here I come!

In the light of France

We moved to the SW of France 2 years ago ..moving from the out skirts of London. It was such a change of direction for us
..my husband had never moved more than 4 miles since he was born
..me well I had moved from London to Devon To the Midlands to London ..round in circles (somethings don’t change)

Anyway ..we ended up here in the SW of France near the Pyrenees.
When you think of the country side of France (especially in you have ever seen any Tour de France footage) you visualize beautiful scenery and snow peaked mountains, warm weather, lots of red wine, french bread and patisseries…..
And let me tell you ..you aren’t disappointed!

I think the thing that I notice more than anything since moving here is the light.

I am not an artist at all – I have trouble coloring in the lines of a kid’s book, let alone being let loose with some paints and an easel ..but even I can tell how beautiful, how different the light is here.

The greens of the trees, the grass, the fields, the different shades and intensity are amazing.
The depths of colour. The ease that the most un-natural (!) colours just seem to blend together and defy our human interior laws.

I was walking the dog this morning and it was raining ..even then it was beautiful ..if not more so ..the yellows in the hedgerows shone, the purples and the cream ..weed like plants (I am not a gardener either !) they glistened like they were out of a glossy magazine picture ..it was a feast to the eyes.

So I totally get why all the great artists would venture South for the light to paint..even now as I write this, it 9pm on a rainy June evening and the bright pink of the blooms on the roses seem more intense and the deep sunshine yellow of the rapeseed in the field opposite is still highlighting the dusk evening as it is setting – my favourite time of night as the sun is going and it becomes – what I call dimpsy (my husband laughs at me!)

So there you have my artistic love of nature coming out ..breath taking ..thank you mother nature
